Let's Study!
As schools are starting up again, you may be anxious of staying on top of your grades and assignments. This page is full of ideas to help you stay on top of all of upcoming and current work you may have!
little reminder : you can't change what happened in he past, but you can decide what happens next.
- stop letting one bad semester define you, and forgive yourself for missed opportunities every semester is a fresh start!
Make sure to set SMART goals
goals are 10x easier to achieve when they're specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
- replace "study more" with "study for 1 hour every weekday"
- break large goals into smaller weekly milestones
- review your goals at the end of each week
- adjust your plan if something isn't working
- focus on building systems that support your goals
ask for help
strong students know when they don't have to do everything alone
- attend office hours
- email teachers and professors
- ask questions
- don't wait until you're failing
- there is no shame in asking
stop comparing yourself
comparison steals time you could spend advancing
- comparison kills confidence
- everyones timeline is different
- celebrate your own wins
things I wish I knew sooner
- if you have a desk, face it away from any distractions ex. a window
- put your phone in a different room, not just on silent (out of sight out of mind)
- active recall works SO well, do it until your able to recall everything you need
- every 90 minutes take time to go outside, no phone, just reset your brain
different methods
the Feynman technique
- explain it like your speaking to a 5 year old
- if you get stuck, go back and review it
active recall
- read the topics once
- close your notes
- write down everything you can remember
- check what you missed and repeat later
blurting
- read a page for 5 minutes
- close the book
- "blurt" out everything you can remember on a page
- check what you missed
A small tip I learned from a girl was to use a different color sticky note for each week, this way you can write down everything you need to get done and if you see a task from last week it can be much easier to prioritize.
